It's Friday night and time to relax after a weeks work..right? The BF gets home before I did tonight and has to do all the get home first chores. Sweep kity litter, get mail, medicines kity, feed kity, vacuums way up the stairs to get tracked kity litter, you know, that kind of stuff.
I come in, un-pack lunch, empty dish washer, set brief case down, " I know.. we should try one of those restaurants that we have a gift card for that we got for Christmas" I said. No response. Some time goes by and so I decided to check email and begin to relax...right.
"What are you doing"
"Cleaning house, how else do you think it gets done?"
" I thought that the cleaning fairy did it"
" You could offer to help"
" Why would I want to do that"
" So we do not have to do it all day tomorrow"
" What?"
" You could vacuum"
"Why would I want to come home from work and vacuum?"
Now I am in the dog house because I do not want to help do chores and made to feel like I never want to help. It's Friday night for fucks sakes. It's like we are never on the same schedule. 20 minutes latter I decided to go change my cloths as I mutter my way up the stairs, " I guess we will just stay in and have left overs".
"Did you still want to go to dinner" I hear from downs stairs......NO I say to my self.
My schedule,
Come home, relax, eat, drink, fall to sleep.
Tomorrow I will be up at 7am, at the gym by 8, home by 10, do some chores, shower and be ready to leave the house by 12 to spend the day doing something fun.
His schedule,
Come home,1 1/2 house of chores, eat, get on line, go to bed at 2 am, sleep till 10ish, get on line, shower, and be ready to leave the house by 1ish.
I don't no how we make it work but it does. All the chores get done. We both have thing we like to do more then other things. Like I do all the out side stuff and he will do most of the inside stuff. He says that I vacuum better and rather I do it.
Well here to no dinner out and a clean house. I will vacuum when I get home from the gym in the morning.
Let me just tell you........... The house we live in is brand new 2004 and so we have this home warranty thing that we buy each year. Last week a light fixture over the island in the kitchen went out so we gave them a call. Told them there are 2 lights on one switch and one will not go on. We changed the bulbs and all but still nothing. They sent out and electrician who walks in and says.."we don't work on or replace fixtures, if one works and the other one does not and there are on the same switch then it must be the fixture" He tells me that he could come back out as a regular call and fix it for about $55.00. This is the same amount we just paid to have him come out and say that he can not fix it. " it is is the transformer, you can get it at Home Depot" Now I am pretty handy so I will look into it I say. Saturday 11:30 a.m. I stand on the counter to see the size of the alen wrench that it will take to get started. After several attempts with all that I have, I need to go to the hardware store. First stop...don't have what I need...next stop, I will give it a try. Come home and it is either to small or still to big. It must be metric. One more stop must have what I will need. After about 20 min looking for someone that can help me, I think that I have what I need so I walk over the the lamp's to look for the transformer that I need. No we have nothing like The Man says " you will need to go to San Diego Electric over on 46th and University. WOW
I get home with my new set of Metric alen wrenches and it fits. Not ever a half a turn of the rench and the lamp came crashing down onto the counter. Glass every where. WTF.. OMG.. NO.. NO.. NO.. OMG...WTF...and a few other choice words. I can not believe that this is even happening. I get it all disconnected, sweep the glass and hop into the car and head for SD Electric. It is no 2:30 p.m. As I drive into the ghetto and I mean the ghetto I pass SDE on the left side of me so I need to make a U turn. As I make my pass back THE PLACE IS CLOSED... The only other place that I can think of at this point is of course ON THE OTHER SIDE OF TOWN. I am sure that I will need to replace the whole lamp. The transformer is bad, the part you put the bulb in is cracked AND I brook the glass.
Now what if I can not find the same kind of glass. I will have to but 2 new one's. In order to replace the glass you still have to take down and apart the whole lamp. OMG. There is a line of 3 other people. As I wait I see what looks like my lamp. Could it be???. Could it be ???. It is and it is $446.00. WHAT THE F@#K Well as it turns out this glass is a hand blown Italian glass and no 2 are alike. " Now for that price you could replace both lamps, I could show you what I have". I decide that I need to bit the bullet and replace it for the same lamp. I am then told it will have to be ordered. I beg I plead and beg some more for him to sell me the display. $284.98 latter plus tax I have a new lamp. It in now 3:45 p.m.
Another half hour later of jerry rigging and a few choice words because the new transformer will not fit into the junction box and the wires will not stay connected, we have light. It took another 20 min. to get the rest of the fixture attached to it's other half that was attached to the junction box. What an ordeal this has been. $55.00 for the first visit and $55.00 to come back out would so have been worth it. Well the tool belt has been put away and I think that it will stay that way for awhile. Here is a pic of my handy work.
Who said it was easy. I got up this morning and the first thing I did was change the bed. Well before I did that I got the duster and some pledge and stood on the bed and gave the ceiling fan a good dusting, then stripped the bed. I dusted the whole house, pledged all the wood including all 4 railings in the stairways. Cleaned the cat boxes, swifered the hardwood, ran the vacuum, and did 3 loads of laundry. Made the bed and windexed some mirrors. Checked email. Did some on line banking, paid bills, took the trash to the curb, cut some plants back in the back yard and then took a shower. I then had to go to the bank and from there I headed to starbucks. Got a triple caramel macchiato and headed straight to the grocery store. $145.00 latter I was on my way home to get some dinner ready. I then realized that I forgot stamps and had to stop at The UPS Store. For dinner we will have a rolled chicken breast, flattened and filled with marinated portobello mushrooms, spanish and feta cheese. A broccoli and rice pilaf with garlic bread will also be served. What a day, and I have to get up at 5:00 am tomorrow to be at work at 7:00 am. It it now time for an Apple Tini or 2 and the final dinner preparations cuz the man will be home soon.
